Service and Support

Thursday, June 24, 2010 by Mike Beer
Sure, Intergy by Sage and Sage Intergy EHR are two of the best products available.  At Bradford-Scott, our mission is to provide the best service and support for those products.  We know that getting a new enterprise medical software or electronic health records system is a big change.  That's why we offer extensive training and unlimited telephone support.

Each year we measure our customer satisfaction.  In 2009 we sent surveys to each of our clients.  The results were overwhelming, and we received a 9.52 score (on a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest).  This was our best score to date and represented an increase over last year.

Bradford-Scott Data Corporation prides itself on providing the best support for or Indiana EMR, Ohio EMR, Illinois EMR, Michigan EMR, and Kentucky EMR customers.    This was explained to me on the day I was hired 18 years ago and it's still true.  If you're already a customer, you know.  If you're not yet a customer, now you know what you're missing.

Cheers,
Mike

PQRI Measures

Friday, June 18, 2010 by Mike Beer
The new buzz-phrase in the health care industry is PQRI Measures.  What exactly does that mean?  PQRI stands for Physician Quality Reporting Initiative.  It sounds like just another industry committee but if you dig deeper it can mean money.

By using your physician billing software along with your electronic medical records software, your practice can qualify for Medicare incentives.  Simply report your PQRI measures on a CMS claim form, to a qualified PQRI registry, or through a qualified
electronic health records (EHR) product.

Looking for a qualified electronic health records product?  Take a look at Sage Intergy EHR.  Version 6.0 has just been released and contains many enhancements to allow for PQRI reporting.  If you'd like more information, check the Bradford-Scott website.  For an EHR demo, contact me through this blog and I can hook you up with the right person.  Don't wait any longer.  Get what you need to get the Medicare incentives.  It's like free money.

Cheers,
Mike

Ohio EMR

Friday, June 18, 2010 by Mike Beer
Tomorrow I'm headed to the Queen City, Cincinnati.  I'm taking the kids to an outdoor rock concert during which it should be a comfortable 95 degrees (with a 103 degree heat index).  I haven't decided whether I'm staying to watch the screaming 'tweens or heading over to watch the thoroughbreds at River Downs.

Speaking of Ohio, it is the state in which we have the highest adoption rate of electronic medical records.  Of our four Intergy by Sage practice management clients, 100% of them are either live with or headed toward EMR adoption!  Our Ohio EMR clients aren't messing around.  In fact, our first Intergy EHR client was from Ohio and they have been using OB GYN EMR for quite some time.

Ohio is leading the charge, but Bradford-Scott Data Corporation also implements Illinois EMR, Kentucky EMR, Michigan EMR, and Indiana EMR.  If you're in one of those states, we want to be your EHR vendor.  To learn more information about Intergy by Sage and Sage Intergy EHR, click on the links.  Or give us a ring at 317-713-2065.

New! Improved!

Friday, June 18, 2010 by Mike Beer
This week we all took a training class on the new release of Intergy by Sage and Sage Intergy EHR version 6.0.  This release will be available soon and promises to offer many enhancements and new features.  Each year Sage invests millions of dollars into the research and development of their Intergy products.  The result of that spending will be apparent in version 6.0.

In the practice management and EMR demo we saw, many enhancements were evident.  Both products address fulfillment of PQRI measures.  The electronic health records product was enhanced to continue CCHIT certification.  And the Intergy Practice Portal has been enhanced to allow for secure message attachments for improved patient communication.

In future blogs I'll go over some of the specific changes available in Sage Intergy and Sage Intergy EHR.  Until then, check out Bradford-Scott's web pages by clicking the links above.  If you don't yet have these products, there's no better time than the present to upgrade.  Give us a ring or leave me a comment on this blog.

2010 Medicare PQRI

Friday, June 11, 2010 by Mike Beer
Are you interested in Medicare incentives for participating in the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative?  It's not too late to comply with PQRI measures for 2010.  While the main reporting period was from January 1, 2010 until December 31, 2010, a new period is upcoming.

According to amednews.com (American Medical News), there is an additional PQRI reporting period from July 1, 2010 until December 31, 2010.  If physicians report a sufficient amount of PQRI measures during this time frame, they can qualify for Medicare incentives for that period.

Bradford-Scott Data Corporation can help you comply with the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative.  Our Intergy by Sage and Sage Intergy EHR products can help you track and submit the data required.  Contact us at 317-713-2065 for more information!

Conversion x3

Friday, June 11, 2010 by Mike Beer
So I'm running the conversion for a long-time customer that just picked up our pediatrics EMR package along with Intergy by Sage.  And I'm doing it for the 3rd time.  Why?  Well, I saw a few procedure codes that came across incorrectly.  And while I could have let it go, it is more important to convert accurate data than it is to finish early.  On a sunny Friday afternoon.

No worries, doing the re-export gives me more time to write a blog entry!  That way I can talk about Intergy by Sage and Sage Intergy EHR.  We've already converted more current and new customers to these packages this year than all of last year.  And these products will help our customers qualify for CMS incentive payments by complying with the ARRA rules.

Want to qualify for Medicare incentives or Medicaid incentives?  You can find out more by browsing the Bradford-Scott website for information, or by checking out the fact sheet for Intergy by Sage.  If you have questions about conversions, reply to me by leaving a comment.

Cheers,
Mike

Backups

Thursday, June 10, 2010 by Mike Beer
I haven't blogged for a while.  Over the last 2 weeks I've spent most of my time reconstructing a lost data file for a customer.  It was the file that holds charges and is one of the core files of the system.  It was on the backup, the customer was doing backups, but when it came time to use it, the file couldn't be read.  So I rebuilt it using data from different files and reports.  It was like putting a giant puzzle together with pieces from all over.

Bradford-Scott Data Corporation takes backups seriously.  With the emergence of electronic health records (EHR), providers cannot afford to lose data or be down.  That's why our backup solution for Intergy by Sage and Sage Intergy EHR are the most advanced backup we offer.

Make sure you're doing your backups!  And to learn more about our products or to schedule an EMR demo, contact us through this blog or at 317-713-2065.

The Race

Friday, June 4, 2010 by Mike Beer
It's the end of the week already but I'm still not caught up from my monster weekend.  Between Carb Day, the 500 parade, the Indy 500, golf, and 3 cookouts, I need to do some serious exercising.  I even went two nights this week without having a beer!

The title of this blog, "The Race" also refers to what is going on in the EHR world.  Practices are racing to qualify for Medicare incentives and/or Medicaid incentives by complying with ARRA regulations.  The ARRA (American Recovery & Reinvestment Act) provides for huge cash rebates to providers who make meaningful use of electronic health records.  And next year is the first year it can be tracked, so the race for EHR adoption is on now!

To learn more about Bradford-Scott's flagship product, Intergy EHR by Sage, contact us through this blog.  Or to learn more or to see an EHR demo, call us at 317-713-2065.

Heatwave

Tuesday, May 25, 2010 by Mike Beer
It took until the end of May, but the heat is finally here.  Sunday I broke down and turned on my AC.  The motor wouldn't turn the fan blades at first, but after messing with it for a while I got it to work.  I'm not exactly sure what (if anything) I did, but it works now.

Electronic Health Records (EHR) sales are heating up too!  The more customers we add, the more EHR Specialties we cover.  Sage Intergy EHR v.5.5 is CCHIT certified, and it offers solutions for these and many other specialties:

  • Primary Care EMR
  • OB / GYN EMR
  • Orthopedics EMR
  • Pediatrics EMR
  • Cardiology EMR
  • ...and many more
With the upcoming release of version 6.0, Sage Intergy EHR's sales will increase even more.  Things are heating up in this industry.  Time for you to get serious about a product, sooner rather than later.  Contact me through this blog or call us at 317-713-2065.   Stay cool this summer!

Mike

Voyage

Thursday, May 20, 2010 by Mike Beer
Last Saturday I took my son and his friend to Holiday World.  We got to ride a bunch of rides, water slides, and roller coasters.  By far the highlight of the trip was the Voyage.  Ranked the #1 wooden coaster in the world, it is speedy and thrilling,  If it's not the best coaster I've ever ridden, then it's at least the best wooden one, even supplanting The Beast which had been my favorite for over two decades.

Technology in the health care industry is similar to the roller coaster industry.  While there are some old systems that are tried and true, technology is exploding right now.  Electronic health records have become more useful and essential.  Electronic prescriptions are in full swing and go hand in hand with the CMS incentive program.

Is your current system a Beast?  It's time to take a Voyage to the future.  Let us give you an EHR demo and prove to you what Sage Intergy EHR can do.  EHR adoption is no longer a luxury, it's a necessity.  Give Bradford-Scott a call at 317-713-2065 or reply to this blog.

Reform

Friday, May 14, 2010 by Mike Beer
I was reading an article on CNN.com about which parts of health care reform were going to take effect when.  Under the category of "Within the first year", I found the following items:
  • Young adults will be able stay on their parents' insurance until their 26th birthday
  • Insurers will not be able to rescind policies to avoid paying medical bills when a person becomes ill
  • New plans must provide coverage for preventive services without co-pays. All plans must comply by 2018
  • A 10 percent tax will be imposed on amounts paid for indoor tanning services on or after July 1
Really?  That one kind of caught me off guard.  I've never been to a tanning bed nor do I ever plan to go to one.  It just seemed like kind of a random point thrown into the bill.  If this is considered a 'sin' tax such as those imposed on alcohol, tobacco and gambling, why not?  I'm sure tanning beds do increase the rate of skin cancer which has to be paid for by insurance.  I like to spend time outside in the summer, so hopefully they won't start taxing outdoor sun exposure time!

On a different note, Chris Thorman's article, "EHR Software Market Share Analysis" states that at least 56% of all office-based physicians do not have any electronic health records at this time.  And only 6% have a fully-functional EHR adoption.  What does this mean?  It means that it's time for you to contact Bradford-Scott Data Corporation, schedule a Sage Intergy EHR demo, and reform your practice!

Cheers,
Mike

May

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 by Mike Beer
The month of May is here!  It's my favorite month of the year, as the weather warms, lake season begins, softball is in full swing, concert season begins, and Indy 500 closes out the month.  This Sunday is opening day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, my favorite place to be in May.

May also signals that the year is already 1/3 over.  This means that time is running out for EMR adoption to receive the maximum benefits under the ARRA program.  Physicians that adopt electronic health records and meet meaningful use requirements by 2003 are eligible for the highest Medicare incentives and Medicaid incentives.

If you haven't yet made the switch to electronic medical records, now is the time.  Not only will your office reduce paper and administrative costs, you'll have access to time-savers like e-prescribing and interfaces with labs.  Click this Sage Intergy EHR link for more information about our product.  Bradford-Scott would also like to show you an EHR demo customized to your practice.

Enjoy your May!  I know I will.
Cheers,
Mike

Eighteen

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 by Mike Beer
Today's blog is titled "Eighteen".  Which of the following does Eighteen refer to?

a) My favorite Alice Cooper Song
b) Wheels on a Big Rig
c) The number of years I've worked at BSDC
d) All of the above

It probably wasn't too hard to guess that the answer is 'd'.  In 1992 at Purdue I interviewed with a company called Bradford-Scott Data Corporation.  And on May 11, 1992 I started working here!  That was eighteen years ago and I've seen a lot of changes in that time.

Our offices have resided in three different Indianapolis locations and three different Fort Wayne locations during my time here.  The size of the company has tripled in that time.  I've met a lot of great people and have moved up the seniority  list, although there are still several people who have been around even longer than me!

I've seen the medical industry move from blue HCFAs to red HCFAs to the CMS form.  I've seen electronic claims go from proprietary to NSF to ANSI, and communications go from bisync to async to Internet.  Electronic Health Records began their emergence a few years ago and are continuing to gain market share.  And our current products, Intergy by Sage and Sage Intergy EHR, are the best we've ever sold.

Here's to another 18 years!
Cheers,
Mike

Mother's Day

Friday, May 7, 2010 by Mike Beer
Sunday is Mother's Day.  It's a good time to celebrate our mothers that were / are always there for us.  We're headed up to Fort Wayne for the weekend where we'll be lucky enough to see both of our mothers and both of our grandmothers.

Before I leave for the weekend, I've got a few Intergy data conversions to wrap up.  One is for an long-time client who has been with us for several years.  They have made the jump to Intergy by Sage and will hopefully soon be using the Pediatrics EMR system.  In the past month we've converted another pediatrics EMR customer and a primary care EMR customer to Intergy by Sage.  Next week I begin a big conversion for a neurological group that is joining the Bradford-Scott family as first-time Intergy users.  The fun never stops!

I hope you'll take some time this weekend to thank your mother or any important mother in your life.

Cheers, Mom.

Biden: EHR = Savings

Thursday, May 6, 2010 by Mike Beer
Though the Congressional Budget Office predicted substantial deficit reduction over the next 20 years of health care reform, vice president Joe Biden said yesterday that health IT savings would be even greater.  Though no specific figures were given, Biden stated that improvements such as fewer emergency room visits, less paper, and efficiencies gained through the use of electronic health records (EHR) would result in substantial savings.

Though Biden didn't provide any figures, I'm inclined to agree with his assessment.  Not because of what he said, but because of what I know about electronic medical records.  The savings in office space, paper, and employee time speaks for itself.  Plus, EMR makes it possible to qualify for the CMS Incentive available as part of the ARRA program.

Bradford-Scott already has several customers using electronic health records.  Their efficiencies are showing already and they are on their way to meeting the ARRA regulations and qualification for Medicare incentives or Medicaid incentives.  Would you like to learn more about this solution?  Are you ready for EMR adoption?  To schedule an Intergy EHR demo, contact us through this blog or call 317-713-2065.

Healthcare IT Advancements

Thursday, May 6, 2010 by Mike Beer
According to Washington Technology, health care reform has begun.  But no amount of government nudge will completely transform heath care without technological innovation.  Advanced technologies' roles are twofold:  to reduce health care costs and to improve the quality of health care services.

In an article entitled, "Government Funding, Technological Advances Transform Healthcare,"
Barbara DePompa says that health care IT is no longer an luxury, but a necessity for physicians.  Medical students are learning about the value and necessity of electronic health records while in medical school.  In January 2009, President Obama made a statement about EHR when he said, “To improve the quality of our health care while lowering its cost, we will make immediate investments necessary to ensure that within five years, all of America’s medical records are computerized.”

DePompa lists three elements that particularly define the upcoming transformation:
  • Electronic Health Records (EHR) / Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Health Information Exchanges (HIEs)
  • Healthcare analytics tools
Is your practice ready for an IT advancement?  Bradford-Scott Data Corporation can supply you with the technology listed above.  To schedule an EHR Demo or to receive more information about Intergy by Sage or Intergy EHR by Sage, call 317-713-2065 or reply to this blog.

ePrescribing

Thursday, April 29, 2010 by Mike Beer

Have you begun ePrescribing yet?  Bradford-Scott introduced the ability to do so in 2008, and since then several customers have taken advantage of this new technology.  Our current customers with Sage Intergy EHR, Intergy by Sage, MENDS and Navigator all have the ability to begin eRx transactions!

According to the article "E-Prescribing Expected to Rise in Wake of DEA Rule, CMS Incentives", the number of electronic prescription transactions tripled between 2008 and 2009.  Thanks to the relaxation of the controlled-substances restrictions, electronic prescriptions are expected to increase in 2010.

How can eRx capability save your practice money?  You'll qualify for the CMS Incentive payment and you'll save office staff time and paper usage.  In 2012, CMS is going to institute a penalty for not prescribing electronically, so you can avoid that as well once you make the move to eRx.  To find out more about how Bradford-Scott Data Corporation can provide you with ePrescribe, electronic health records, or any of our other products' features, contact us through this blog or call 317-713-2065.

PQRI Reporting

Friday, April 23, 2010 by Mike Beer
Today I found a great article that detailed a physician group's experience with following PQRI Measures to attain the related CMS Incentive payments.  The article, "The Physician Quality Reporting Initiative:  Secrets to Success:  Tips for Reporting" by Sally Roland, details the PQRI plight of Methodist Physicians Clinics, Inc.  In the article, Roland details the goals, experiences, and results of her practice as they began participation in the PQRI program.

The physicians that participated and succeeded in the program received CMS incentive payments of 1.5% in 2007 and 2008.  In 2009, the Medicare incentives were increased to 2%.  In the article, Roland describes the following five reporting tips in detail:
  • Prepare
  • Select Measures
  • Collect Data
  • Report Data
  • Monitor
With a great amount of preparation and dedication to following the PQRI measures, the practice enjoyed an 84% success rate for their family physicians.  In addition to the monetary bonuses, the practice members agreed that they were providing a higher quality of patient care.

If you'd like to find out more about PQRI Measures or the ARRA Program, check out the information on Bradford-Scott's website.

April Showers

Friday, April 23, 2010 by Mike Beer

We've had a pretty dry April so far but that's about to change in a few minutes.  This weekend which was hopefully going to be full of social gatherings, Earth Day festival, drag racing and softball, is looking like a pretty wet one.  Maybe it will wash away all of the yellow pollen that's affecting people.  Rain will also hopefully help my grass grow!

Something that has been raining down are sales of Intergy by Sage and CCHIT certified Sage Intergy v5.5.  When our sales team gains a new customer or upgrades an existing customer, they ring a big bell.  That bell has been ringing a lot lately.  Today, a customer that has been with Bradford-Scott for over 18 years - longer than me - upgraded to Intergy by Sage.  They have been so happy with our service and support that they didn't look anywhere else.  They knew that Bradford-Scott would offer them the best of everything.

Are you ready for some growth for your practice?  Like April showers, Bradford-Scott Data Corporation can help your business blossom.  If you're ready to make the leap to electronic health records, we can schedule an EHR demo to show you what it can do for you.  If your practice management product is old and dusty, we can upgrade you to the best national product on the market, Intergy by Sage.  Interested?  Reply to my blog or call 317-713-2065.

Cheers,
Mike

Earth Day

Thursday, April 22, 2010 by Mike Beer
Happy Earth Day!  Today is the day we try to become better Earth citizens by conserving, recycling, and planting trees.  My 'green' daughter wants to go to the Earth Day festival this Saturday at White River State Park so that's probably where I'll be too.

Bradford-Scott Data Corporation has taken a green initiative this year.  We've been recycling aluminum and plastic bottles for some time.  In 2010 we've focused also on conservation of paper by using more electronic forms and reports.  Energy conservation has been another topic of discussion.  Turning off computers and monitors, disconnecting chargers, and watching our usage of electricity have all been instituted.

Has your office gone green?  One great way to go green is to move to electronic health records!  After EHR adoption, you'll see the amount of paper you used to use decrease significantly.  Don't forget to recycle that paper after you scan it.  EMR adoption is also the only way to get your EMR stimulus funds from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act.  Need an EHR demo or more information?  Click the Sage Intergy EHR link or contact at 317-713-2065 through this blog.

Cheers,
Mike
