Medical software blogs from the corner cubicle

Terry Hedges at Bradford-Scott Terry Hedges Certified Medical training Specialist. Prior to working at Bradford-Scott Data Corporation, I had worked the last twelve years in billing and collections, and as a Accounts Receivable manager. In my years of billing and collections I have worked on various medical billing systems and hospital information systems. I can honestly say that all three of our Practice Management systems Intergy, Mends and Navigator are all user friendly.

My time away from work is mostly spent pursuing my Business Administration Degree through Marian's MAP program or spending time with the two newest additions to my family. Cole and Leo my two dogs that look like black labs. Mother was a rat terrier and dad was ?? -well who knows but they really do look like small black labs. What I like best about BSDC is teaching training classes.

Weather in Indiana

Friday, February 19, 2010 by Terry Hedges

There has been a lot of belly aching about the recent snow storms that have hit the Midwest. Yes, snow storms do get old, but I remember what it was like growing up in the 70's and 80's with blizzards here in Indiana. In the more recent years our winters here in Indiana have been very mild compared with those of my childhood. And although I am in the Federal protected age group, I am not that old. I guess one thing that you can count on in Indiana is that there will be some snow storms each and every winter season.

If you are looking for other things that you can count on in Indiana, you can count on Bradford-Scott Data Corporation for excellent medical software support for Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan. We have been providing medical billing software for over 27 years now. Some other things that you can count on include;
  • A call back within 29 minutes from when you have logged your call
  • trained software and hardware support teams
  • Our dedication to client satisfaction, every year we send our clients our customer satisfaction surveys and this year you rated us as a 9.52 on a 10 point scale.
Bradford-Scott Data corporation will see you through any storm! For more information about our medical practice management software and our integrated EHR solution by Sage click the link below.

Contemporary relevant EHR software=Intergy by Sage

Friday, February 19, 2010 by Terry Hedges
What type of system do you suppose the Doctors and scientist working at the Smithsonian Institute would prefer? As an avid viewer of the Bones series I know they use the latest and greatest research software and techniques available. They can reconstruct a complete skeleton with just a few bones and some x-rays. Weekly, we see them come up with the face of the victim from just the skull or even pieces of the skull. They do amazing work each week. Yes, it is T.V. and viewers expect them to be able to do the unexpected. But I am sure that Temperance Brennan "Bones" would only settle for the most relevant EHR software. Not only would the Smithsonian Institute want to use the best equipment they could afford but since the lab works with the FBI consistently, the government would also want them to use contemporary software. Bones would certainly want to check out Intergy by Sage before making an educated discussion about which EHR software to choose. I am sure that she would want to act now while there is Stimulus money available, instead of waiting until she was mandated to purchase an EHR system. She would want to be able to use government funds and buy now instead of waiting until later and paying more. An investment made today is always worth more than an investment made in the future, and now there is a government stimulus to help offset those initial software costs. Bones would want access to images like these;

 You would not see her running around looking at paper charts. For more information about Intergy by Sage you can follow this link

What would Sheldon Do?

Friday, February 19, 2010 by Terry Hedges
What would Sheldon Cooper do? Sheldon Cooper is one of the main characters on the Big Bang Theory. It is a great comedy that revolves around the lives of some university research scientists.

Sheldon would certainly want to work with the latest and greatest research tools. If Sheldon were selecting a practice management software solution and an EHR system, I am confident that he would want a system that is completely integrated. Intergy by Sage is just such a solution. I am sure that Intergy by Sage is an option that Sheldon would consider. He would certainly plan it all out on his white board and list all the big benefits they might include some of the following features and benefits or the medical office billing software and EHR.

  • It automates access to patient information
  • Enables providers to make better decisions & provide better care
  • Improves the accuracy of medical records
  • Reduces the incidence of medical errors
  • Reduces duplication of tests
  • Reduces delays in treatments
  • Health information is readily available
  • Electronic prescriptions sent to pharmacy of your choice
  • Prescriptions printed making them easier to read by you and the pharmacist
  • Reduces the amount of paper in the office & in patient records
  • It is an electronic version of a patients medical history, including medications, vital signs, past medical history immunizations, lab data, etc.
  •  Electronic prescriptions and incentives for using it. Intergy EHR is part of Stimulus package.

Why not take advantage of a stimulus plan

Tuesday, February 9, 2010 by Terry Hedges

With our country's current economic condition, there are stimulus packages that are ripe for the picking. One such package offers tax credits for new home buyers and move up buyers. The act I am referring to is the Worker, Homeowner and Business Assistance Act of 2009. This act was signed into law November 6, 2009 and provided  $8,000 for new home purchases and $6,500 for move up or repeat buyers. This act did encourage buyers before it ran out, and the good news is that it was extended as long as the purchase is made by April 30, 2010 and the closing is done by June 30, 2010.

Another great stimulus act that is currently available is for business owners, more specifically medical providers and is focused around EHRs (electronic health records). The act I am referring to is American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to stimulate the U.S. economy. The bill allots over $60 billion to encourage the use of Electronic Health Records throughout the medical community: $46 billion towards pay-for-performance, and $14 billion in grants. For more information on this act and how it can be used with Intergy EHR by sage click this link http://www.bradfordscott.com/med_stimulus.php

So whether you are a family in the market for a new suburban home, or you are a medical provider searching for a new Integrated practice management and EHR solution, there just may be a stimulus package waiting for you. If you would like more information about Intergy EHR by Sage please call (317) 713-2065 or (800) 963-2732 or visit us at http://www.bradfordscott.com/med_pm_intergy.php.

Medical practice managment tips

Tuesday, February 9, 2010 by Terry Hedges

The following is an excerpt from the National Government Services, and could affect any provider who submits Medicare secondary claims through any medical office billing software. To be directed to the CMS website follow this link http://www.cms.hhs.gov/

Medicare Claims Not Crossing Over to the Supplemental Insurer

National Government Services is informing all providers, physicians, and suppliers to an issue that occurred starting on or about January 1, 2010, and would have negatively impacted their patients' crossover claims.

National Government Services has learned that due to a system issue with the Common Working File (CWF), some claims are not crossing over to the supplemental insurance carrier for benefits.

CMS states that they are working on this issue and they further recommend that providers do the following;

*         Examine your Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) or standard paper remittance advice to determine if your patients' claims are identified as having been crossed over to your patients' supplemental insurers. Remittance Remark Code MA 18 will indicate your claim has crossed over to the supplemental insurer.

*        If you determine these claims were not crossed over, you are within your rights to submit claims to your patients' insurers for supplemental payment using methodologies acceptable to those entities.

We have taken support calls on this issue, this is just one example of the payer issues that Bradford-Scott Data corporation attempts to monitor to assist our clients with their medical billing software and claims issues. If at any time you have a question regarding an electronic rejection you have received on a report 05 or from a report 11 (payer issued) Please do not hesitate to contact our support line at (317) 713-2065 and we will do our best to assist you. We will be there through rain, sleet and snow

Tuesday, February 9, 2010 by Terry Hedges

The morning commute, well this morning it took and hour and 15 minutes. My normal commute would never be more than 45 minutes a crossed town.  Slid at the first intersection but I realized that was my own fault, I was too overzealous. Stop light was out by Eli Lilly which caused a significant delay. Doesn't anybody remember what to do at a flashing yellow? Fall Creek was a complete mess this morning, there was one car that had slid off the road down a large embankment and finally came to rest in the middle of a park. The next block there was a car diagonal in the right hand lane and the police were there with emergency flares helping the driver fix a tire. The very next block there was another police car with a two car fender bender. Once I got off Fall Creek and on to Keystone it was better, However my speed never got above 35 m.p.h. until I was almost to work. This is just my story, and I don't even have to get on the interstate. Many of my co-workers had even longer drives to get here.

The bottom line here is that the Bradford-Scott team is here and you can rely on us even in a Winter storm warning. You can rely on us for all your EHR and Practice management solutions. So in this way we are like the post office. Some distinctions you will find with us compared to the postal service is our satisfaction ratings, 9.5 (on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest for 2009),and how quickly we respond to your calls, our normal response time is just over seven minutes.You will be speaking with support about you medical software or EHR issues as well as your medical software or EHR hardware issues. Bradford-Scott offers an integrated Medical office billing software and Medical EHR package to our clients. If you would like more information about what Bradford-Scott can do for you click here

Bradford-Scott Data Corporation is just like the U.S. mail we will be there through rain sleet and snow to service our customers.  For more information click the link below www.bradfordscott.com/medical.php

This is your wake up call

Thursday, February 4, 2010 by Terry Hedges
 They say we're young..and we don't know......

Dr.__________ it is your wake up call. It really is your wake up call if you have been using an old character based/dos based system for your medical billing system. These systems have been great for years, all the bugs were worked out of these medical software systems years ago. We still support our MENDS system and it is still very capable of getting you from point A to point B, but in today's business world do you still want to be using a system that was great in the 1980's when it is 2010?

Let's put it another way you can use this;

But wouldn't you rather use something like this?

As you can see, Intergy practice management guides you through processes in a step by step fashion with user friendly error messages. Intergy is a windows based application instead of the old character dos based systems, and is much more relevant for today's computer users. For more information please contact Bradford-Scott by clicking here

It' Groundhogs Day!

Tuesday, February 2, 2010 by Terry Hedges
That's right, it is that time of year again! It's Groundhogs day. So everyone rush out and rent the video. I will be watching mine and eating pizza tonight.

I heard that Phil came out of his stump this morning and...

"Hey, saw my shadow. I hereby do predict 6 more weeks of winter. Last one to a PA ski lodge is an opossum. -- Phil"

So since we are all forced to stay in our homes and offices anyway, why not use this time to reflect on how we do business. Maybe it is time to update that old practice management software of yours. If you are considering purchasing an EHR system remember that Intergy by Sage offers an Integrated Practice Management and EHR solution. Our EHR does qualify for the Stimulus as well. Bradford-Scott More than just Medical Office Billing Software

Friday, December 4, 2009 by Terry Hedges

Bradford-Scott is a channel partner with Sage, and as a channel partner we proudly offer Intergy Practice management software and Intergy EHR software. Bradford-Scott also know as BSDC has a lot to be proud of, this company has been supporting medical software needs of our clients for over 26 years now.

I know there are a lot of companies that like to talk up there customer service and for a good reason customer service in your practice management is every bit as important as the software that runs the practice and it's associated hardware. When you are shopping for any practice management or EHR system make sure that support or customer service is one of your prime directives. Here are a few facts about Bradford-Scotts support
  • We have certified trainers who have been trained and tested on all the software products they support.
  • Our trainers are not a separate department from support as is the case with most large software companies. The trainers are on phone support every week so we know what claims issues our clients are running into.
  • The trainers have all worked in medical offices and organizations of one type or another so we really have been in the clients shoes.
  • We not only train and support our clients but we also help them get their systems up and running when they go live on our EHR or Practice management software. This benefits the client as it allows our support to fully understand not only how the program should work but how things should be set up as well.
  • Our current clients rated us as a 9.39 for customer service. This number is an average for all of customer service, software, sales and hardware so all the departments individually did this well or better.
  • All calls are returned within 29 minutes and are normally returned within 7 minutes
For these reasons and many more, why not consider Intergy by Sage for your practice management and EHR needs.
