We are all looking forward to Labor Day Weekend. It gives us a 3-day weekend to be outside and say good bye to Summer! But where did Labor Day come from. It came from one guy named Peter McGuire that thought all workers with a trade should have the right to a 8 hr work day. This would give each worker 8 hrs of work, 8hrs of play, and 8 hrs of sleep to make up their day! Once the movement was passed to protect the workers it was declared Labor Day!!
So when planning your holiday weekend, use your EHR System and Practice Management System to your fullest advantage. Use the E- Prescribing module to approve scripts right from the comfort of your home. If you need to check the patients chart first, no problem simply log in to your EHR System from home and pull up the patient chart.
Let your EHR system help you get back to whatever activities you have planned for your Labor Day Weekend!
Yesterday I conducted a training session on E-Prescribing, Allergies, E-Encounters, and Tasking. This is the training session that Bradford-Scott refers to as our Clinical Setup Training Session. When purchasing an EHR System from Bradfordscott, we evaluate your need for particular classes and advise you on what classes to take in what order. After completing the EMR training Classes your practice should be able to use the EHR System to document your daily office visits.
This particular EHR training session covered the follow areas with a brief description of each:
E-Prescribing- Writing medication prescriptions from the EHR System and sending the script through a secure portal to the pharmacy. Receiving prescription request from the pharmacy through the EHR Software.
Allergies- Creating an Allergy list for each patient in which the system will automatically cross reference when sending a medication.
E-Encounters- Electronic form that resembles your Superbill, Encounter Form, or Fee Sheet. To allow for a favorites list in the system that applies to your practice.
Tasks- The ability to send task to individuals within the office. Also a portal in which the provider can receive and review RX Request and Lab Results.
After the training session I encourage staff members to use their new skills to setup favorite list and settings that meet their office's needs!
I recently began using financial software to better track my spending and keep my financial goals in sight. I can see all of my transactions and see when & where I spent money as well as what types of categories my spending falls into. I have minimal accounting knowledge, but I can already see that this software will allow me to have a much tighter grasp on my finances and will give me more information than I ever thought possible.
I chose to use this software, but I could easily function without it. Medical Practice Billing Software, on the other hand, is nearly essential for a practice to compete in today's market. Luckily, Bradford Scott has a perfect software solution for your practice, regardless of your size or patient volume. Our newest prouduct, Intergy by Sage is designed around an accounting system model. Your financial information will be extremely secure, and all transactions will have a built-in audit log that you can easily view at anytime.
The best part about Intergy is the awesome support you will receive from Bradford Scott Medical. Our trainers and technical staff will help you through every step of your transition to our system, and will help you to get the most out of your software. If Intergy sounds like something your practice could use, contact Bradford Scott Medical today.
As a women's health provider, you face two unique sets of challenges... You are responsible for everything from long-term preventive care to managing acute and chronic health conditions. At the same time, you are required to document and analyze visit information to track pregnancy progress and manage risk. Intergy EHR by Sage, in conjunction with Intergy by Sage practice management, provides the tools you need to help you manage your business and care for your patients more effectively.Contact us today for more information or to schedule your free consultation.
Sage Intergy EHR V5.5 is CCHIT 2008 certified and is designed to complement the clinical approach of your practice. The latest Intergy EHR release focuses on maximizing clinical connectivity in order to optimize your patient’s experience and enhance your bottom line. Intergy EHR does this by touching every aspect of your practice, from enhancing patient care to maximizing billing procedures.
Guideline-driven care for preventive measures and treatments protocols
Advanced clinical flow-sheets provide a view of a patient’s progress and treatment effectiveness
ePrescribing enhances accuracy and provides interaction alerts
Orders & Tasks allow you to easily create and track orders such as mammograms, blood tests, etc.
Drug Utilization Review (DUR) On Demand and ePrescribing provide you instant access to drug interaction information
Clinical record summary for Interoperability improves efficiency by sharing information
One of the coolest features in Bradford-Scott's EMR System is the Flowsheets screen. We can customize your EMR system to show the items that you wish to track and also group them together based on condition that you are trying to monitor.
Here are some of the features:
Customize list of vitals, findings, and lab results to show on the patients flowchart. in the Patient Records System.
Graphing- Display a visual graph of the change in a component of the flowsheet over time. You can graph one item or several items together.
Medication Duration- The screen will display the medications that the patient is taking in comparison to the items that you are tracking in your flowsheet. This will quickly show the provider how the medication is affecting the patients findings.
Growth Chart- There is a built in growth chart that will plot and child's height and weight automatically.
Flowsheets are just another great feature in Electronic Medical Records that will make it easier for providers to care for their patients.
As technology advances for physicians with EHR Software, it also advances for patients. We live in a world of laptops and smart phones. May people prefer to communicate by e-mail than by telephone.
Our Intergy by Sage EHR Software offers a feature call Practice Portal. The Practice Portal facilitates the patient/provider “connection” by giving patients access to a wide array of online information and services through secure, online communications. Your patients can:
Receive General Practice Information
Request an Appointment
Request a Prescription Refill
Submit New Patient Registration Forms and Pre-Visit Questionnaires
View their lab results, immunization data, medications, health conditions, and more
In addition to these features you can reduce staff phone time by exchanging real-time, secure email messages with patients instead of phone calls. For more information about our Intergy by Sage Practice Portal and how it works with our Intergy EHR Software, contact Bradford Scott Data Corporation. We will be happy to set up an EHR Demo for you to see how our products can help your practice.
Many physicians know about the current proposal for the EMR Stimulus package, but question what the difference is between the Medicaid Incentives and the Medicare Incentives. Although both of these packages seem great, you will need to decide which package will work best for your office.
The Medicaid Incentives and Requirements are as follows:
Must be a Physician, Dentist, Certifies Nurse Midwife, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant (In a Rural Health Clinic or FQHC lead by a Physician Assistant)
Have a minimum of 30% medicaid patient mix (20% for pediatricians)
Begins in 2011
May receive up to $63,750 over a 6 year period
1st year cost no later than 2016
No payments made after 2021 or more than 5 years
No Medicaid penalty for failure to demonstrate Meaningful Use
Does not require Meaningful Use the first year as long as you can demonstrate you are adopting, implementing, or upgrading
The Medicare Incentives and Requirements are as follows:
Must be a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy, Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine, Dr. of Podiatric Medicine, Doctor of Optometry, or a Chiropractor
Begins in 2011
May receive up to $44,000 over a 5 year period
Incentive based on percentage of Medicare allowable
Must prove meaningful use for all patients, not just Medicare patients
Incentive payments end in 2015
Penalty reductions on Medicare reimbursements if not proving Meaningful Use starting in 2015 (1% a year capped at 3%)
You can see by these requirements, that it's better to begin your EMR Adoption sooner rather than later. At Bradford Scott Data Corporation, we will be happy to walk with you through your EMR Implementation and make sure you are up to date on the current changes in Incentive Requirements. Contact us for an EMR Demo today, so you don't miss out on one penny!

75% of the public supports the movement of electronic health records, but will the technology really make us safer? Here are my top 5 favorite reasons for thinking that they will....
Less trips to the doctor's office - When we can email our doctors instead of having to set appointments for every little thing, like a prescription refill, we will be saving time and money! Less time taken off of work, less money spent in gas, and less time spent waiting in the lobby will always be positives in my book.
Access to your medical records on vacation - With EHR technology being rapidly embraced, it's just a matter of time before doctors and hospitals will be able to share our medical records. If I'm off getting married in Vegas, and I need to seek medical attention, my doctor from the Hoosier state can send my info with a touch of a button. I don't know about you, but I don't like having to re-take tests and blood work if I don't have to!
No more leaving messages and calling back for lab results - How many times have you called for your results, only to be told to call back later? Wouldn't it be nice if we could just log on and see the results for ourselves? Very nice!
No more hauling X-rays and medical files - If we are referred to a specialist, that physician will need our past records, tests, and/or X-rays. But what id they could just retrieve them like a digital picture? No more sorting through papers, waiting for faxes, or hauling them yourself.
Prescriptions - When prescriptions are transmitted electronically, the system automatically checks for interactions and correct dosage. Do you go to more then one doctor for more than one reason? Now you don't have to worry if the pharmacist will catch it. Electronic prescriptions have saved millions already, and the doctor gets a kick-back right now from Medicare, what's not to love?
If your physician is not taking advantage of electronic health records, it's time for you to ask why. With the ARRA(Stimulus) incentives that are available, it has never been a better time to make a move.
This week I had a training session on Tuesday evening from 5-7pm on our Electronic Medical Records Software program. Bradford-Scott offers training times during the day and in the evenings to give your practice time to learn the EMR System and not interfere with your patient load. The training session was covering the Provider Desktop and Patient Charting. These are two areas of our EMR product that will be used daily by the clinical staff and providers.
The Provider Desktop consists of the providers schedule, Open Task, Open Encounters, and Open Orders. Our EMR System starts the provider out on this screen as a snapshot of all the items they would typically want to monitor.
Patient Charting was the next topic covered. There are many items in this area required to receive Medicare Incentives. Tabs represent different areas of the patients chart. Much like the tabs that are in your paper chart. Except these are items are easy to read and update. There is no need to dig around the chart in search of a document, everything is properly stored under it's specific tab as it is entered in the system.
The training session went well the doctors were more than thrilled with the Health Maintenance Screen. He quoted that to be his favorite screen of the system so far!
So now that you have purchased an Electronic Medical Records System you are having problems adjusting to documenting your patients visit on your new system. You may be feeling like you are so focused on your computer that you are not even looking at your patient. You may feel like it takes you three times as long to do the same amount of patient charting. Here are a few tips to make EMR Adoption an easier process.
Start the visit without your computer to maintain that patient doctor relationship
Face the patient with the laptop or tablet on your lap. This way it is easier to look at the patient from time to time and try to keep that patient relationship strong.
Practice, Practice, Practice...before going live on the EMR system take a few visits from each day and enter into the system. It may be extra time added to your work day but will make you feel more confident when the patient is in front of you.
Only choose certain visits and start slow. Do not plan on documenting a whole days worth of patients visits your first day, most likely you will get frustrated and quit using it all together.
Do not get hung up on one particular finding that you want to document and cannot find. Write it down and then ask your support team later.
These are just a few of our tips that we offer when implementing an EMR System. Bradford-Scott has been in the business of Medical Software for over 25 years. With our experience we offer the best support in the business.
A few years ago you could mention the acronym EMR and nobody knew what you were talking about. Today you mention EMR and everybody knows what it is, and it does not matter if you are speaking with a medical professional or patient. So what is the point of EMR and how can you benefit from implementing your Electronic Medical Records System?
Electronic Medical Records are used to create better tracking and reporting on patient care to ultimately allow providers to better care for their patients. One of the major features is the Health Maintenance piece. This feature will automatically put the patient in a preventative group of health guidelines based on age and sex. It will also apply a set of care condition guidelines based on the patients problem list.
The doctor is reminded of these care guidelines every time a patent's chart is accessed. As these guidelines are satisfied they will be removed from the list until they are due again. This feature is key to ensure that your patients are being treated for everything that is needed for them individually.
There are many other features of Electronic Medical Records that provide better care to patients. Health Maintenance is just one many. Contact Bradford-Scott Data Corp for more information.
Since the release of Sage Intergy 6.0, many of our current Intergy clients have upgraded. In addition, all new Sage Intergy customers installed this summer have received version 6.0 already installed.
Sage Intergy v6.0 contains hundreds of new features. Some of the highlights include:
Immunization Registry Downloads - An automated report that can be uploaded to a state immunization registry for consolidated tracking (like CHIRP in Indiana)
Patient Age Display has been enhanced to show hours, days, weeks, and months of age depending on child's age
Practice Portal - major enhancements allowing attachments, secure patient information reports, and added performance
New reports including Patients by Vaccine, Consolidated ERA Reports, Cardio Patient Matching, Health Center Quarterly Report, and more
This is just a small sampling of the many additions and changes available in Sage Intergy v6.0. For more information, contact Bradford-Scott Data Corporation at 317-713-2065 or contact us through this blog.
Why consider an Electronic Medical Records System? • Improved Coding - With better documentation tools, your coding will be more accurate. Where there is more accuracy, better patient care and, in most cases, higher reimbursements will follow.
• Storage - Where are you putting those charts? Keeping them on-site takes up too much space and keeping them off-site takes up too much of your money. Use your space for another exam room and use your money for whatever you want, not renting the unnecessary.
• e-Prescribing - Did you know that, on average, your staff spends 10 minutes handling prescription refill calls alone? How many of these calls are they taking each day? You're paying them how much per hour?
• Malpractice Premiums - Did you know that some insurance carriers offer discounts to those providers using EHR? It's true... Some even offer discounts all the way up to 20%, and for you specialty practices out there, this type of saving would more than cover the cost of your EHR.
• No More Chart Pulls - With an average cost of $5 per chart pull, how much money would your practice save? The average is 30 chart pulls per day, what would you do with an extra $39,150 per year?
If you wait until you are forced to implement an Electronic Health Records system, will you end up with one that you have no control over? Call us today to view a demo of Intergy EHR. Intergy EHR meets all of the Stage 1 criteria to receive your incentives.
It's not a question of "if", it's a question of "when".

Is your practice using an electronic script writing software? If not you might want to invest in one. This is not only a more secure way to submit patient medications to the pharmacy, but there is also a kickback offered to all medical offices that are using a true e-script medical software product from Medicare. This functionality will also be required for your practice to qualify for meaningful use and receive government stimulus money.
Bradford-Scott's EMR system allows the doctor, or medical practice, to send and answer prescription requests directly from within the Electronic Medical Records Software. This causes little disruption to the doctors day as he can quickly answer the request while seeing patients. The newest feature of the E-scripting software will allow the doctor to submit controlled substances electronically. This will also save the doctor time in writing out prescriptions.
With the combination of the a more secure way to submit patient prescriptions, and the ease of use to the doctor and clinical staff, eprescribing is a valuable asset to any medical facility.
Look around your office and notice all the stacks of paper everywhere. With an integrated EMR system all the stacks of paper can be eliminated through document imaging. Most EMR vendors will discuss converting your paper chart into an electronic chart. However they do not focus on all the other paper documents in the office. Each Medical office receives, radiology reports, discharge letters, referral letters, lab results, and many other items daily in a paper format.
Bradford-Scott Data Corp has an EMR product that can convert all your paper into electronic files no matter how they get to your office. There are many items that come into the office through fax. With a faxing solution these items can be directly imported into the system and sent to the doctor for review and stored in the patient chart.
Another way to cut out the paper is to receive your Radiology reports, Ultrasounds, hospital reports, and an other paper documentation on an cd and then import them into the system using the imaging feature in your EMR system.
Your Medical Office can even go a step further and scan in all their EOB's into an electronic file cabinet. So can staff information, patient education, and doctors registration. Security settings within the EMR system can be set to only all certain people to see certain types of documents.
The opportunities to eliminate paper in your office are endless. You will not only make it easier to find the medical records you are looking for, but also help environment by cutting back on the use of paper. Electronic Medical Records Systems make it easy to organize your office.
Let's face it. In order for a doctor's office to maximize its efficiency, patients have to show up on-time for their appointments. Traditionally, an office would pay an employee to manually call patients, reminding them of their upcoming appointments. Now, however, with Intergy Practice Management (PM), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), or Enterprise Medical Software systems, Bradford-Scott Data Corporation offers the PhoneTree Patient messaging system which can do this calling automatically.
In the PhoneTree patient messaging system, an office not only has an automatic way to reduce no-shows, but also has a pain-free collection module. Quite simply, the PhoneTree messaging system pays for itself in the time that employees don't have to spend doing mundane tasks, usually in just a matter of months.
For more information about PhoneTree other Indiana Enterprise Medical Software Solutions, please call Mike Bessignano at Bradford-Scott Data Corporation @ 317-713-2065.
The push is on for electronic health records (EHR) and a large component of that is e-prescribing.
If you haven't gotten on the bandwagon, consider these benefits to your practice:
Quickly create/view any prescription
Improved patient care - decreased errors and pharmacy calls
DUR checks
Formularies for insurance plans
Electronic requests from the pharmacy for refills
As you can see from just this short list, the benefits easily outweigh your current paper method.
Additionally, in June of this year, a new law allowing electronic prescriptions for controlled substances - class II through V was approved by the DEA. This was done in order to provide a greater use of e-prescribing than was currently available.
Bradford-Scott Medical Corporation offers a web based application as well as our Intergy EHR software which includes e-prescribing as one of its' features.
